Practice Approach
The foundation of my practice philosophy rests on my commitment to provide you with honest, compassionate, prudent, comprehensive, and effective care. It is important that when you are in treatment, you feel that you are respected, heard, and understood. It is also important that you know that as a physician I must first ‘do no harm,’ and so we will always talk about risks, benefits, and alternatives of possible treatments or solutions as we work together.
If you decide you would like to begin treatment with me, we would first have a brief phone conversation to ascertain what issues are concerning you and how I might be able to assist you. We would then schedule a face-to-face intake appointment that lasts 90 minutes during which I get to know you and I can share with you my preliminary impressions and an outline of your treatment plan. Sometimes, it may take several sessions before we have a good sense of where you are, where you want to be, and how you might get there. The initial visit is also an opportunity for you to find out if I am the right fit for you, and vice versa.
When creating your treatment plan, we will collaborate and develop one that is holistic and individualized. Psychiatric problems are not simple ‘chemical imbalances,’ but have biological, psychological, and social components. Similarly, treatments I might recommend will try to address the many factors which could be contributing to your difficulties.
Psychiatric treatment is a partnership between the patient and the physician. We will work together to help you feel better and well again. While I might advise you or make recommendations, I will also be open to ideas you may have in treatments that may aid you. I will always be respectful of the fact that you are the ultimate decision-maker in your care.
